Sextus Julius Caesar

Sextus Julius Caesar was the name of several men of the Julii Caesares family in ancient Rome.

Sextus Julius Caesar I

Lived circa 200 BC. Son of Lucius Julius Caesar I. Grandson of Numerius Julius Caesar.

Sextus Julius I was a military tribune under Lucius Aemilius Paullus and a Governor of Liguria.

His sons were Gaius Julius Caesar I and Sextus Julius Caesar II.

Sextus Julius Caesar II

Son of Sextus Julius Caesar I. As a Roman ambassador, assisted in restoring the liberty of Abdera in 169 BC. Consul 156 BC. A Roman coin of Sextus Julius Caesar II can be seen at http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/rsc/julia/i.html

Sextus Julius Caesar III

Died 90BC or 89BC. Son of Gaius Julius Caesar II and Marcia and a supporter of Marius. Probably praetor in 94BC, probably occupied a governorship and became consul in 91 BC. He lost a battle against the Samnites and died during the siege of Asculum.

Sextus Julius Caesar IV

Son of Sextus Julius Caesar III. He was a close friend and cousin to Julius Caesar. Sextus commanded one of his Syrian legions and was quaestor in 48BC.
