Shek O - The "rocky bay" facing the South China Sea

Shek O () is a beachside town of several villages in the Southern District of Hong Kong, that includes Shek O Country Park, Shek O and Cape D'Aguilar. The entire area is a peninsula on the southern coast of the Hong Kong Island, facing the South China Sea. The name "Shek O" literally means the "rocky bay". Shek O is famous for beautiful scenery and good environment, which is why many Canto-pop MVs are produced there.

Shek O Beach, Hong Kong

Shek O Beach

Shek O Beach is on the south-eastern part of Hong Kong Island. The water quality is fair and is gazetted Grade 2 for quality. The sand on the beach is fine. There are many restaurants and a barbecue area near the beach so many people go to there for swimming or barbecue on holidays. Also, the cliffs on the beach provide an excellent place for sports climbing.

It is quite inconvenient for people to go to Shek O Beach because only buses no. 9 from Shau Kei Wan and no. 309 from Central can reach the place; but bus no. 309 is only available on Sunday. However, there are quite lot of car parks near the beach so it is still convenient for people to travel there by car.

Due to the isolated location of Shek O, the environment near the beach remains rustic and quiet which is one of the area's main attractions.

Transportation

It is served by Shek O Road, which connects Tai Tam Road to Stanley and Chai Wan.

There is free public car parking available.

Bus Routes, New World First Bus
