Shiba Goro
Colonel
Shiba Goro was born into a samurai family in the
Aizu region of Northern Japan. He rose to international prominence during the siege of the Peking legations which occurred during the
Boxer Rebellion. He was military attache at the Japanese legation at that time.
He is also the author of his memiors "
Remembering Aizu." The book portrays an insiders view of the
Meiji Restoration in
Japan. A view specifically portryaying the injustices inflicted upon the
Aizu diamyo during the restoration.
