Super Panavision 70

Super Panavision 70 was the marketing brand used to identify movies photographed with Panavision 65 mm cameras and spherical optics between 1959 and 1983.

The frame dimensions and six-track stereo soundtrack configuration of Super Panavision 70 were virtually identical to those established for the Todd-AO 65/70 mm process in 1955. Films made with either process could be shown with the same projectors, lenses and screen.

Some of the films made in Super Panavision 70 were presented in 70 mm Cinerama in selected theaters. Special optics were used to project the 70 mm prints onto a deeply-curved screen to mimic the effect of the original 3-strip Cinerama process.
