Survivalism (life after death)

This article is about the belief in life after death. For the belief in preparation for survival after social upheaval, see Survivalism

Survivalism refers to the belief in survival of the conscious self after death. It is used by some of those who dislike the religious connotations of Spiritualism. Like Spiritualism, it attempts to defend beliefs generally associated with religion, using the methods of science. That is, on the grounds of observation and experiment rather than religious faith or revelation. Alleged evidence includes near-death experiences, out-of-the-body experiences, physical and other mediumship, recordings of paranormal phenomena via tape, and various forms of photography. Supporters of this theory also claim a relationship between their beliefs and theories such as Quantum Physics, theories of parallel universes, etc. Survivalism's respect for science is not reciprocated by the scientific community, and it is accused of being a pseudoscience.
