Tan Hill, Yorkshire
Tan Hill () is a high point on the
Pennine Way in
North Yorkshire,
England near the borders with
County Durham and
Cumbria. It is home to
The Tan Hill Inn, which is recognised as being the highest inn in England at 1732ft (536m) above sea level. It is situated on an unclassified road approximately four miles (6km) north of the village of
Keld, close to the northern boundary of the
Yorkshire Dales National Park.
The second highest inn is The
Cat and Fiddle Inn, on
Axe Edge Moor, on the
A537 road near the
Derbyshire/
Cheshire county boundary with an elevation of about 1690ft (515m), though recent measurements dispute Tan Hill's supremacy [

Every year the Sutton Grammar CCF have a traditional run from the town of Thwaite to the top of Tan Hill. Carrying a bergen of substantial weight and covering 6 and 3/4 miles, the race is considered extremely difficult. Previous winners have been Ben Ross, Phil Evans (twice) and Matt King.
