Tanfield, Durham
Tanfield is a village in
County Durham,
England. It is generally counted as part of the town of
Stanley and is the location of
Tanfield Railway. Tanfield is in fact two separate villages:
Tanfield Lea located at the bottom of a valley is the modern part of the village with no buildings older than one hundred years old.
Tanfield Village is a much older place, located on the opposite hill of the valley to Stanley.
