Tazewell County is a
county located in the
U.S. state of
Illinois. As of 2000, the population was 128,485. Its
county seat is
Pekin, Illinois6.
Tazewell County was formed out of
Peoria County in 1827. The consensus appears to be that it was named in honor of
Littleton Tazewell, who was serving in the U.S. Senate, and who became Governor of Virginia in 1834. It is, however, possible that it was named for Littleton's father, prominent Virginia politician
Henry Tazewell, for whom
Tazewell County, Virginia was named.

The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 2.96.
In the county the population was spread out with 24.40% under the age of 18, 8.10% from 18 to 24, 28.60% from 25 to 44, 24.00% from 45 to 64, and 14.90% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 96.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.10 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $45,250, and the median income for a family was $53,412. Males had a median income of $41,148 versus $24,781 for females. The
