Teen pop

Teen pop is a form of popular music made for and often by preteens and teenagers. It could be in a form of a garage band, rap music, or it could be music made for manufactured boy bands-girl groups/pop princesses. Most teen pop in the 2000s has a late '90s alternative pop rock sound to it and it has a very light and dancy feel. It has always been around in one form or another, from the Phil-Spector-produced Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans to the Bubblegum Pop of the Archies, but its popularity exploded in the late 80s (with acts like Debbie Gibson, New Kids on the Block, Tiffany and Martika) and late 90s (with bands and performers such as the Hanson, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls and *NSYNC). Female singers are usually referred to as a Pop princess. One thing most teen pop songs have in common is the visibility of the hand holding the strings. Teen pop bands are almost always made or prefabricated, not born, and admittedly so. The plasticity and disposability of teen pop acts makes them big, no-risk moneymakers, which explains the formidable popularity of the style today.
