The Professionals (band)
After the break up of the
Sex Pistols and the debacle of the
Sham Pistols Steve Jones and
Paul Cook formed
The Professionals. Andy Allen, a friend of Jones, joined the band as bass player. He was later ousted and was replaced by bassist Paul Myers (ex Subway Sect). Also joining the band was guitarist Ray McVeigh.
They signed to
Virgin Records in early 1980. Their first release with Virgin was the single "Just Another Dream".
The album "I Didn't See It Coming" was released in November 1981.
In 1982 after the end of their 2nd US tour the band were no more.
Their raucous singalong choruses and crashing power chords ensured that they were not forgotten and the album was issued on CD in 1999. A best of album was released in 2005 despite the band only ever recording one album, four singles and an album of demos. Cook and Jones featured in the 1981 film
Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains.
