Theatrical producer

A theatrical producer is a type of producer who oversees the staging of theatre productions. The producer also has the ultimated authority in the theatrical production, since he or she is responsible for choosing the play, hiring the play's creative team (director, designers, etc.) and high ranking business staff (production manager, general manager), and deciding which theatre the show will run at. In Britain, "producer" sometimes refers to the stage director.

Typically, the term producer is used in reference to commercial or amateur productions. Non-profit professional theatres usually have an artistic director and executive director in charge of their productions.
