Tone

The word tone is used in several different fields with different meanings.

Tone may refer to:

In music:
* Pitch (music), the perceived frequency of a note or sound (see also pure tone)
* Note, the name of a pitch, or the graphic representation of that pitch in a notation system, and sometimes its note value
* Whole tone, or major second, a commonly occurring musical interval, that is, a relationship between two notes or pitches (cf. semitone)
* Timbre, the quality of a musical note or sound In geography:
* River Tone, Somerset, England
* Tone River, Kanto region, Japan
* Tone, Ibaraki, Japan
* Tone District, Gunma, JapanIn people:
* Theobald Wolfe Tone (1763-1798), Irish republican
* Tone Loc (born 1966), American hip hop artist and actor
* Tone Tone, American hip hop artist

Tone may also refer to:
* Tone (linguistics), the use of pitch in language to distinguish words
* Tone, Japanese World War II cruiser
* Tones, 1986 album by Eric Johnson
* Tone, 1970s band led by David Sancious
* 2 Tone (or Two Tone), style of music created in England by fusing elements of punk rock and ska
* Muscle tone, the firmness or strength of a tissue or organ
* Setting tone, the conveyance of an emotion or mood by an author
* Dual-tone multi-frequency or tone dialing (as opposed to pulse dialing)
