Toplica District
The
Toplica District (
Serbian:
Toplički okrug or
Топлички округ) expands in the southern part of
Serbia. It has a population of 102.075 (census 2002) and has been named after the river
Toplica. Seat of the District is in the city of
Prokuplje.

Hisar, a mountain behind
Prokuplje, stands for the town symbol. It is the site of the medieval fortress with still well preserved tower, popularly called the Tower of
Jug Bogdan, who was a hero of the
Battle of Kosovo.
The
St. Prokopije Church, in the town's vicinity, was built in the tenth century, and the Roman church originating from the sixteenth century well illustrates the influence of the Catholic culture, conferred by the Venetian merchants over the fifteenth and sixteenth century.
The Toplički District is a medium developed industrial center, in which the most prominent are the "Prokupac" - alcoholic beverage factory, the "Hissar" food factory, the "FOM" ferrous metal plant and the "Topličanka" cotton mill.
