Troy is a

Pike County,
Alabama,
United States. At the 2000 census the population was 13,935. The city is the
county seat of
Pike County. It is home to
Troy University (formerly Troy State University).

census of 2000, there were 13,935 people, 5,583 households, and 3,187 families residing in the city. The
population density was 205.0/km² (531.1/mi²). There were 6,436 housing units at an average density of 94.7/km² (245.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 58.89%

The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.98.
In the city the population was spread out with 22.6% under the age of 18, 24.2% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 17.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 27 years. For every 100 females there were 86.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.8 males.
