Vale Royal
Vale Royal is a
local government district and
borough in
Cheshire,
North West England. It contains the towns of
Northwich,
Winsford and
Frodsham. It takes its name from
Vale Royal Abbey, formerly one of the largest in England, which was situated near the village of Whitegate. Although the Abbey no longer exists, the house built on the site is still known as Vale Royal and is now a golf club and apartments.
The district was created on
April 1,
1974 under the
Local Government Act 1972. It was a merger of Northwich and Winsford
urban districts,
Northwich Rural District and part of
Runcorn Rural District.
