Vernon Kay
Vernon Kay (born
28 April 1974, in
Bolton,
Greater Manchester,
England) is a British television presenter and
DJ.
His first TV presenting job was on the BBC kids show FBI, a spin-off of
Fully Booked.
He hosted the television show
Hit Me Baby One More Time which first aired on British television in 2005. The show was then picked up by
NBC for the
United States, which Kay also hosted. Vernon Kay is also a regular host of
T4. He also presented
Boys and Girls,
HeadJam,
Celebrities Under Pressure and
California Dreaming.
He married fellow television presenter,
Tess Daly on
September 12th 2003, near his hometown and they have one child (Phoebe Elizabeth) together.
Kay, known for his long hair and sense of style, made his first step in to the world of showbiz when he was spotted by model scouts for the
Clothes Show Live. His stylish ways led to him being awarded 2005's Most Stylish Man award by men's magazine
FHM.
In 2004, Vernon Kay joined
BBC Radio 1 and presented an entertainment show every Sunday. In 2005, Vernon was given the 10am - 1pm weekend slot, which used to be hosted by
Colin Murray and
Edith Bowman, and currently broadcasts on both Saturdays and Sundays on the popular radio network.
In 2005, Kay hosted the annual
The Record of the Year competition.
Also in 2005, Vernon Kay competed with a host of other celebrities in a series titled,
Ant & Dec's Gameshow Marathon, in which
ITV TV personalities battled it out against each other in a series of well-known game formats that had been featured on the ITV network over the past 50 years. The show as part of
ITV's 50th anniversary celebrations. Kay managed to get to the final of the competition, however lost out to
Carol Vorderman and her family, in a special edition of
Family Fortunes.
However, TV bosses were reportedly so impressed with Kay's appearance on the show, that they have announced plans to revive
Family Fortunes with Vernon Kay as the host, in
September 2006. He has also presented alongside his wife, Tess Daly, for the first time in 2006, doing the
BBC One celebrity singing contest
Just the Two of Us.
In 2006, Vernon hosted a segment on
ITV's coverage of
The Prince's Trust 30th Birthday LIVE.
He is a lifelong fan of
Bolton Wanderers.
