Vivian Fuchs

Sir Vivian Ernest Fuchs (February 11 1908November 11 1999) was a British explorer.

Fuchs was born in Kent and educated at Brighton College and the University of Cambridge. He served in the army in WW2. He is best known as the leader of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition to celebrate the International Geophysical Year, 1957. The expedition was the first to cross the continent of Antarctica.

In 1958, Fuchs was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.
