Question
i got into a little bit of trouble back in January and my "friend" has a father who is a retired police officer, well about 2 weeks ago another friend of mine and her father went to their house and the ex cop had the police report printed out and showed the man to show that i am a "bad influence" could i press charges against him for showing someone those things who had nothing to do with the charges?

Answer
Dear Jennifer,

I honestly don't know for certain--I'm not an attorney and there may be some technicality I'm overlooking here--but I doubt if you have any legal recourse. Generally speaking, police reports are a part of the public record and showing someone else such a document seems unlikely to be grounds for a suit.

I would, however, recommend you take appropriate *social* action: namely, find a better friend. There is little likelihood that further association with people like these is going to be anything but disappointing for you. Assuming that you have in fact put behind you whatever "trouble" you had in January, you don't need to have someone else throwing it up to you.

Good luck.

Regards,

Ed B.
