Question
Can i sue my neighbor for making false reports and slanderous comments about my husband looking in their bedroom windows and or
trying to rob them?  each time the police have investagated they
deem that it did not happen, but tell me there is nothing I can do but move and try to get along with them.  It happened again
this morning when the meter reader walked through the yards and she called the police again.  Cop saw the tracks from my meter to hers and disregarded the call and told me I have to try  to get along with them because they are to busy to keep coming out here.

Answer
Hi Gina,

The rule for bringing a libel case is that a person make a false statement of fact to others that has the effect of harming one's reputation.  Falsely accusing someone of being a peeping tom or an attempted thief would fall into this category.  If you wish to pursue such a claim, I would recommend contacting an attorney in your area.

Keep in mind that suing them is not exactly going to help your relationship with them.
