1st Amendment and Free Speech/Invasion of Privacy

Question
I'm doing a paper and the guy that's under "Misc Law" says he doesn't have time to answer homework questions.  Do you happen to know the law in which it specifically talks about invasion of privacy?  If you could get back to me on that that would be cool.  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Stacey,

There are many different state and federal laws that deal with privacy issues.  For example, there are federal wiretap laws to keep people from listening to our phone conversations, laws regarding governmental use of our social security numbers, and many states have laws that protect us from having our image used commerically without our consent.  These are but a few examples of hundreds of laws that deal with privacy.

The Consitutional right of privacy upon which is based many other rights including the right of a woman to have an abortion, cannot be found anywhere.  The Supreme Court made up the right in the case of Griswold v. Connecticut.  You can read that opinion here:

Of course, the court has significantly expanded that right since that time, including Roe v. Wade and many other rulings.

I hope this helps!
