Question
I have a lawsuit pending in my state.  I need an operation that might require disability assistance from the state.  If I get disability, would it cancel my lawsuit that is pending in the state?  I would appreciate your answer.

Answer
Hi Alice,

Generally speaking receiving state assistance would not impact on your right to bring a lawsuit, although it is possible it will limit any potential damage award.

However, I cannot give you a specific definitive answer as there may be local laws in your area that impact your situation.  Your best bet would be to speak with the attorney handling your lawsuit.
