Hi Michael.  I found this site while doing research for a class I teach.  very helpful.  I am a state circuit judge in wisconsin (chief judge 8th dist).  I wondered if we might be distantly related in that I don't encounter many Troys.  My family hails from Pittsfield, MA.  I have a brother, Michael Troy.  He is head of psychological services at Children's Hospital in St Paul, MN.  Feel free to contact me at the email address above.  joe troy

Hi Joe,

I don't think we are too closely related.  My great-grandfather came to Philadelphia from Ireland in the late 1800's.  The family seems mostly to have stayed in this area as far as I can tell.  I have been doing some family research lately.  If you care to look at my family tree and see if anything looks familiar, feel free to visit my web site:

Experience

As an attorney for the Center for Individual Rights, I worked on a number of free speech cases, including Rosenberger v. Univ. of Virginia, in which the Supreme Court upheld my clients' right to run a student newspaper without discrimination because of its religious conent. I also worked on White v. Julian, which protected the right of people to protest against a homeless shelter in their neighborhood.

I also worked for the Federal Election Commission on several cases regarding the right to participate in the election process.
