Question How did the election of Warren Harding in 1920 indicate that the nations mood had changed?
Answer The election of Warren Harding indicated that the nations mood had changed in a number of ways. Most importantly however in that it indicated that the country was prepared to return to it's long-standing policy of "isolationism", which Harding was a strong supporter of. America had just seen the end of WWI, A.K.A. "The Great War". during which it was lead my Woodrow Wilson who, in his "14 Points" demonstrated that he believed that America should become more active as an international force. However Harding, who was strongly against this idea, argued that the U.S.A. should return to it's old ways in the idea that it was the method that had always worked. The fact that he was elected showed that the nations mood had changed dramatically. This is because it showed that the nation was no longer looking for a strong, charismatic, and drastic leader as it had been during the war, but was instead wanting to return to it's old policies and return to "normalcy", a term coined by Harding himself.
