AboutTom Expertise While it is a huge topic, I am well-versed in World War II generally. There is a huge wealth of information available on the internet, HOWEVER, one has to know the trash from the gems. Many sites which are not obviously credible (govt, university, and museum sites, for ex.), provide erroneous information (intentionally or otherwise).

My name is Gordon and I have been given an assessment task at school
regarding why the Australian War Memorial is an important part of australian
history. I am aware that your area of expertise is World War II and was
wondering if you had any insight into this question around the 1939-1945
time frame.
Thank You for your time, and I look forward to your response.
Regards, Gordon Reid.
Answer Being an American, I've tried to figure out how - or if - I can answer this, and I think it best to just admit that I can't.
I've been to the AWM and it is a wonderful place, part memorial, part museum, part archive. But why is it important? I'm not sure how to answer - it documents Australia's military history, it's commitments and idealism, and shows Australia's support of causes 'larger than itself' and so for those reasons one could say it is an important part of Australian history.
I'd peruse their website (awesome gathering of info), and perhaps even ping them.
