AboutMichael FitzGerald Expertise I am an expert in German history between 1918 and 1945, particularly with regard to the Nazi era. I am also very knowledgeable about most areas of philosophy (I have an honours degree in the subject) and am able to answer questions on that subject too. In addition, I am very knowledgeable about poetry. One of my hobbies is also politics, mainly British and European though I follow the US political scene as well. Another one is the history of crime and punishment and British social history (the two often overlap!) I am willing to answer questions on all the above issues.
Experience Author of two published works, 'Storm Troopers of Satan,' an account of the lunatic fringes of Nazi ideology, and 'Adolf Hitler: A Portrait,' a biography of the German dictator. 'Adolf Hitler' was published in July 2006 by the top history publisher Spellmount and was named historical biography of the month by the Good Book Guide. I correspond with Ian Kershaw, Peter Stachura, Jeremy Noakes, Roger Moorhouse and Stan Lauryssens. I have undertaken research for radio, television, newspapers and magazines

Question Michael...
Thanks for the help anyway. Did you hear about the recent PHD candidate who handed his committee a book based on his dissertation? It concerned the encirclement of the Rhur in March 1945 and a publisher grabbed it even before the committee approved it. Military studies of WWII are very hot. Al Cagle

-----Question-----
Michael...
Has their ever been a translation of that German book "The catastrophe in Romania" about Army Group South. Also has there ever been a book on the Baltic evacuation (English) Jan-May 1945. Several naval books have a chapter on it, but a full biography would be great. Thank you.
-----Answer-----
Dear Alan,
Thank you for your interesting question. As far as I am aware, there has never been an English translation of the book about Army Group South in Romania. I am also not aware of any books on the Baltic evacuation. Sorry.
Publishers, take note - there is a potential market here!
Regards
Mike
Answer Dear Alan,
No, I haven't heard that story but I'm sure it's a good book. My experience is that there certainly is a market for books on the period but that publishers don't always seem very good at identifying potential markets. My own, which is the top history/military publisher in Britain, seemed to have no idea where they should send review copies to and I find publishers infuriatingly unbusinesslike. Mind you, most authors would say the same.
