Question What were the gas prices frozen at during WWII, when gas rationing went nationwide in '41?
What was it like for people buying food?
If you could give me any insight on this subject, I'd appreciate it.
Answer gas prices were at 7 shillings a barrel (£30 in todays money)
People buying food found it really difficult as tescos home deliverly service was not around in those days. It seems that doing your own shopping should have been around for 1000 years but earliest records are of the 1830s when boy scouts shopped for grannies and OAPs.
Hope this helps
