Question
Fascism claimed to be something new, neither conservative, nor liberal, nor socialist, but a new way of organizing society. Was there any truth to this claim, either in theory or in reality?

Answer
Fascism in itself was a philosophy or system of government marked by stringent social and economic control, a strong, centralized government headed by a dictator, and often a policy of belligerent nationalism.  The word "fascism" came from the Latin fasces – a bundle of rods with a projecting axe, which was the symbol of authority in ancient Rome. The term was applied by Mussolini to his movement after his rise to power in 1922. It was nothing new. Fascism has its roots in ancient Roman and Egyptian culture though its terms were applied differently. Modern fascist governments expanded the system to encourage anti semitism and social oppression.
