What is the most powerful empire in history?
the English empire because it controlled 1/4 of the area of the globe, the totality of the seas and oceans and most of the flow of wealth from Asia, North America and large parts of Africa. At the peak of its power, it was said that "the sun never sets on the British Empire" because its span across the globe ensured that the sun was always shining on one of its numerous territories. However it did not last as long as the Roman empire, approximately 400 years since the first settlement of North America in the XVIIth century until the independence of India in the XXth century.
