Question
Hi Ben,

I had another quick question to help me write up a project
on WW2 Germany. Where were Hitler Youth meetings/activities
for German children held? Were girls separated from boys,
and younger children from older?

Thank you again.

Lyn

Answer
Hi Lyn

If you imagine what Scouting is like in this country, that is similar to what happened. Adolf Hitler was an admirer of Lord Baden Powell and the Scouting movement and many of the principals of the Hitler Youth, was based on Scouting. They would meet in town hall, community centres, schools and Youth Halls.

Boys and girls were separated, in a way with boys doing the rough and tumble of sports, patriotism and teamwork. The girls would be learning about Germany, Womanhood, Domestic science etc. It was very sexist. The Youth system was mainly for the children over 6.

I hope this helps
Ben
