2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/Conviction in NJ

Question
I was convicted on 3rd degree felony for Possessing a prohibited weapon. It was not used in the commission of a crime. I served no time only paid 500 dollar fine and $35 court costs.  At the time I lived in New Jersey, I am now a resident of Florida.   I have applied for executive clemency here in Florida and they have told me..."Due to federal firearms laws, the clemency board will not consider requests for firearm authority from individuals convicted in federal or out of state courts.  In order to comply with federal laws, a presidential pardon, or relief of disability from ATF must be issued in cases involving federal court convictions.  A pardon or restoration of civil rights with no restrictions on firearmsmust be issued by the state where the conviction occurred."

I feel like I am being led in a circle.  I can find no information on restoring my full civil rights or the process involved in the state of New Jersey.

Do you have any ideas.  I am a hard working man and this happened in 1988.  I was young and dumb and did not know that I had shortened the barrel of my shotgun 1/2 inch too short.  Your assistance will be extremely appreciated.

Answer
You have to return to NJ and apply for restoration of rights with no restrictions.  Most states do this through the Parole/Probation Dept. some have executive clemency boards.  Only NJ can give you full restoration of rights florida can give you your rights back except for firearms.

good luck
