Question
In Texas, I was convicted of assault on a family member with a domestic violence tag along, over paddling my daughter after she made a knowingly false accusation of rape against someone else that was completely innocent (2nd jury was not allowed to hear why I paddled her -- only that I did).  I completed 1 yr probation and in '03 moved to Florida.  I just learned I cannot apply for a concealed weapons permit and that my gun ownership rights may have also been impacted?  Is this correct?  I've never heard anything about my owning guns and I've had them for years (even during the probation and showed them to the officer) but I haven't tried to by new ones from a dealer since then either.  If they are impacted, am I at risk while hunting?  If so, how can I get the rights back or am I worried my mistake?

Answer
You will have to get restoration of rights in the state of Texas with no restrictions.  With a Domestic violence offense you are not allowed to have any firearms or weapons according to the Federal and local laws.  Even a soldier in the middle of war lose their firearm rights with a domestic violence conviction.
