2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/Restoration of right to bear arms
Expert: n/a - 10/24/2008
QuestionI was convicted of article 112. under a General-court martial (UCMJ) five years ago. I was never arrested before this situation or after (3 yrs). The charge did not consist of aggravation or possession of a firearm. I reside in Louisiana and desire to have protection in my home for my family. How do I go about if possible, on restoring my right to bear arms? I work a shift scheduled job that includes nights, so can my wife atleast own a firearm for protection despite my situation? I hope one awful decision dosent prevent me from protecting my family and self, from this crazy world we live in nowadays.
AnswerWell, I hate to say this but you will be banned from firearms until you can receive a presidential pardon because you have a federal conviction. Long guns are different, your wife can have a long gun for home protection and in some states you can have a long gun also. Check your local law for that for that. Did you receive a dishonorable discharge? if so that another obstacle you have to cross by getting that overturned by the Military.
Good Luck
