Question
My husband is a convicted felon he was rail roaded into pleading guilty in order to avoid any prison time and it was not a violent crime. So he is an avid hunter and has done so all is life he can currently not own a fire arm however he does bow hunt which is legal. He is mortified at the prospect of never being able to gun hunt again. Now since North Carolina is a pro gun state what are the chances he can own a fire arm to hunt again? We have checked into having the felony expended but that is going to cost lots of money. Is there anything else we can do? And what are the chances that he will get his right to bear arms back?

Answer
Hi Valerie,

I thank you for contacting me about this matter. In my opinion the only thing that I know that would get his firearm rights back is getting the felony removed from his record. A good legal representative specializing in firearm laws may save you some money in the efforts to accomplish that.

His chances are only good if he does not have a felony on his record. Federal firearms laws prevent felons from owning firearms. There would be a double benefit to getting his record cleared up. Both the State of North Carolina and the Federal authorities would clear him to own guns.

Good luck to you folks. If I can be of further help just let me know.
