hello Don, I reside in NYC  and I remember you too are from ny and have a
VA non resident ccw permit, my questions is will I be able to buy my first gun
I'm new York with my non resident permit or do I have to go to another state,
please help because it seem that I have the permit but can't buy gun, I feel
that it of no value with me living in NYC, what ur input on this? Was it the
same for u

The permit is to carry in the state of Virginia and the states that have reciprocity with VA.  You don't need a permit to purchase a firearm only to carry concealed.  You need to be a resident of any state in order to purchase a firearm there.  My VA permit is now a resident permit.  You will need a government ID from the state you wish to purchase from. Like a driver license or non drivers ID. Virginia does not have recipociy with NY so you will ot be able to carry concealed NY with a VA permit.  Apply for a New York target permit and you will be able to buy a weapon in NY legally.
