Question
QUESTION: I have a conviction from a general court martial in 1989.  I currently reside in Kansas.  Is it possible for me to own a long gun?

ANSWER: NO, You need a Presidential Pardon...  You are restricted from all firearms.  Although most states don't do a NICS checks for long guns if you are caught with a long gun you may be prosecuted.  Some local laws try to say you are cleared for long guns but the federal laws says otherwise.  Also if you have a Military conviction most likely you have a dishonorable discharge if thats the case that is the second reason you can't own any firearms.

QUESTION: I have a general (under honorable conditions)discharge does that make a difference?

Answer
OK, As long as it's not dishonorable.  You are still restricted from firearms because of the federal felony you need a presidential pardon.  Go online and download the application for a pardon.  You will have to do an engine search for the website.
