2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/Can I purchase a handgun?

Question
QUESTION: I was convicted of DWI in 2008 in Maryland, a misdemeanor with a 1.5 year probation.  Can I purchase a handgun?  Besides that my record is clear.  Thank you.

ANSWER: Yes you can legally purchase a firearm.  If you don't have a firearm permit you may still get challenged by the NICS check system and may have to appeal the decision or you may pass on the first try.

Good Luck

QUESTION: Well, I own multiple handguns but I was having one built then this mess
happened and I was notified it was ready. I've been afraid to put the paper
work in for it.

Answer
I stand corrected I did not notice your probation sentence.  You cannot possess a firearm while you are on probation.  I'm not sure if the NICS will fail you but if you are caught with a firearm you will be arrested because you are on probation.
