Question
I was convicted of a misdemeanor domestic violence in California five years ago. The Navy is just now starting to make a big deal about me not being able to use a firearm. I've already received an expungement but it did not give me my gun right back. Is their anything I can do to reinstate my gun rights? I do not really care about using guns on my free time I just need to be able to use a gun during military hours.

I know about the new rule in the Military I just reenlisted in the Army and had to fill out that same form about domestic violence.   If you had an expungement you are cleared to carry a firearm according to Federal Law 18 U.S.C 921 (A)(20) so ask your Jag or Commander to look it up.  There is no such thing as gun rights alone if you have your rights restored through expungement then your full rights are restored and you are cleared to carry a firearm unless the expungement specifically says you can't own, transport or purchase any firearms.  You can also call ATF or look up Federal Firearm laws and read 18 U.S.C 921 (A)(20) yourself.  To set them straight apply for a virginia non resident firearm permit using your military background for the training.  Go to Virginia State Police I'm sure you will be approved I know plenty who done it through Virginia and Florida.
