2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/Felon and guns

Question
My son was convicted of a felony.  He is on probation and may come and live with us.  We have rifles in a gun safe in our home.  Is it alright for him to live in our home?  He was convicted of a non violent crime.

Answer
Dear Karen,

Thanks for asking me about this matter. It is fine for him to live in your home as long as he does not have access to the rifles in the gun safe.

Federal law says that a convicted felon may not be in possession of a firearm.

If the gun safe has a lock be sure the combination or key is not available to him.

If I can be of any further assistance please let me know.

Thanks,

Daniel
