2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/VA License Application

Question
I am sending in my non-resident VA pistol permit application. 1) Do I need to include details regarding my case or just the CRD and release from probation letters? 2) If I purchase a pistol in VA and bring it back to Upstate NY, can I use it at the range? 3) When I purchase the pistol, is there any additional computer searches done at the merchant that would be an issue if I have my license? Thanks

Answer
The purpose of getting the Virginia Firearm permit is to make it a little easier to get your NYS permit.  Virginia has no reciprocity in New York.  Therefore, if you bring your firearm that you purchase in Va. to New York you can only keep it in your home.  You may be able to transport it to the range but there are strict laws.  The weapon must be out of reach from any passenger and separate from the bullets.  This is also the laws when transporting from Virginia to NY.  As far as the application goes just answer the questions truthfully do not add extras send them the certificate of relief thats all.  Virginia does a NICS check but if you qualify for a gun permit you will pass their NICS check, it may take about 30 minutes because its your first purchase.  If you don't want to wait for a NICS check go online to Shemma guns.com.  He does his checks after he sells you the weapon.  On the Federal application for gun purchase your answer for have you ever been convicted of a felony is NO because you have restoration of rights through your certificate of relief which for the purpose of purchasing a firearm ONLY you are allowed to answer no to that question unless your certificate specifically says you can't own, purchase or transport a firearm.

You will get the Virginia firearm permit if you have a CRD that does not state you can't own, purchase or transport firearms/ weapons. You can also call the State Police in Virginia they are very nice.  Ask them about the firearm permit with a CRD they will ask you to fax it and give you an answer if you qualify or not.
