Hello,

I'm a 25 year old living in Rochester, NY.  I was thinking about getting a crossbow for target shooting.  I don't want to shoot at anything alive!  I tried finding the specific law on this but so far have only found that it is illegal for hunting.  I don't want to do anything illegal, so I wanted to check my local laws before obtaining one.  Could you please clarify the law on crossbows for target shooting?

I'm not an expert on crossbows, I give information on Firearm permits and restoration of rights to obtain a firearm permit if you have any convictions.  I'm sure you can call your local precint and find out if a crossbow is illegal or not.  If you don't want to do that just ask the person that sells them.
