how do I go about getting my right to own a gun back, about 18-20 years ago I was arrested for possession of cocaine and I served time for this, now I would like to start the sport or hunting, but I cant use a gun all this time I have stay out of trouble with law.

You have to apply for Restoration of Rights in the state which you were convicted.  Some states like Virginia and Florida allow you to apply for Executive Clemency if you live in that state even though you were convicted in a different state.  You must show that you have been working for the past years and not have been convicted of any crime since.
