Question
I live in kansas and 10 years ago, I was convicted of a misdemeanor possession of marijuana...i bought a 9mm 4 years ago and was approved by NICS. Well in October of 2007, the police arrested me for criminal possession of a firearm. Eventho they dropped all charges and returned my gun...a lawyer said that it is illegal for anyone in kansas to own a gun if they have had a drug conviction of any type. But I am not sure of that..could you help me on that subject please? Thank you!

Answer
I don't know about Kansas law but you are not banned from firearms according to the federal government.  You must have been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor of Domestic Violence in order to be banned from firearms. Although you are not a convicted felon you should get yourself a firearm permit so this won't happen again.  You should also apply for restoration of rights or executive clemency for your conviction.
