Question
When i was 18 i plead guilty to possession of marijuana (a misdemeanor) and am now trying to get my C.P.L.  Three years has passed since the conviction but i read that knowingly possessing a controlled substance puts you on hold for at least8 years.  Am I able to obtain my C.C.W?

Answer
I never heard of any law that states a misdemeanor drug offense bans you from firearms for 8 years.  You need to read federal firearm code 18. U.S.C 922. A misdemeanor conviction does not restrict you from fiearms.  If you are denied a CCW Permit it is the decision of the licensing agency and not the firearm laws.  Your state may not be a shall issue state like Virginia, Florida and Texas etc.  Check to see if your state has reciprocity with Virginia and/or Florida and get a non-resident permit from either state.  A misdemeanor drug offense will not restrict you from firearms in those states for sure.
