2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/Minnesota Permit to Purchase Denied.

Question
About 15 yrs ago, when i was about 19, I was involved in a yelling match in the street with an ex-girlfriend after she told me she cheated on me with my brother. By the end of it I punched my car and walked off, never laying a hand on her. The police were called and I got charged with 5th degree assault since I commited an act of violence in her presence during an arguement. Now, 15 years later I just had a permit to purchase turned down due to that old incident. It was a solitary incident and is the only thing on my record. I've researched the laws and this denial doesn't seem legal, what can I do?

Answer
Well, Shawn, you say that you were "charged with 5th degree assault." What did you do at the time? Did you just plead guilty, or go to trial? You don't specify. But it doesn't matter since this isn't a Second Amendment question.

It seems as if you didn't have an attorney at the time. I suggest that you get one now.

Good luck to you.

I can answer questions about Handguns, Rifles, Ammunition, the Firearms Industry, the "gunzine game," practical accessories for self-defense (CCW) handguns; rumor control on firearms myths, errata on the "gunshop grapevine."

I am NOT an Attorney, and nothing I provide here should be relied upon as legal advice. Therefore, please do NOT make inquiries about Criminal Justice issues... this is the Second Amendment topic.

Nor do I do "Private Consultations." Want to made it "private," retain an attorney.
