2nd Amendment and Right to Bear Arms/carry permit after youthful offender non felony

Question
My husband was arrested at age 16 in 1977, charged as a youthful offender and was advised case would be sealed and expunged. This was in NYC. We now live in NJ& both own firearms with Firearm Purchaser ID cards, never had any problems. He recently applied for a FL carry permit, and this case from 1977 in NYC came up and he was told that if he couldn't prove his right to bear arms was restored he would be denied the permit. The question is, since his rights were never taken away, how do we prove it? NYC states they have no form for that! Help!

Answer
Gail,

Thanks for asking. This is a job for a legal expert. I suggest that they contact NYC and get the proof on their records. If it is still showing up, then it must still be on the record. You may try to contact them but an attorney would probably have better luck.

Thanks,

Dan
