can convicted felons rent guns from the gun range? can my wife and i go shooting at the range without breaking any laws?

Thanks for asking but Federal law states that felons my not own or possess firearms. At the range you would be in possession. Also if the range knew that you were a felon they would not rent guns to you. Yes you would be braking the law.
