Question
i recently went to buy a rifle for the range i live in Suffolk county long island New York and was denied because of a misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child. my question is.. is there an amount of time i cannot purchase a firearm after my conviction or is it for life? can this rifle purchase denial be appealed and possible overturned so i may purchase the weapon?

Answer
A misdemeanor domestic violence conviction makes one prohibited from possessing firearms under federal law. There is no amount of time after which the prohibition automatically lifts.  The conviction would need to be expunged or the convict pardoned or given a relief from disability, to lift the prohibition.
