Question
QUESTION: My husband and I are in the market for a handgun. Well we found one we wanted but he was denied for whatever reason but I still want a gun. The dealer wouldnt sell me one stating that it would be a straw purchase. Does this mean I cant buy a gun for myself because he was denied?

ANSWER: Hi Tammy,

A straw purchase is when an eligible person attempts to buy a gun for an ineligible person. That is why the dealer would not sell you one.

Go to another dealer by yourself, and buy a gun.

QUESTION: Curious, why would I have to go by myself? I need my husbands guidance to choose the right gun. Secondly, when asked if I could just buy it in my name he said no not today, does that mean I need to wait a certain amount of time before I try to buy one?

Answer
Tammy,

Ok so take your husband with you, but you have to tell the dealer that you want to buy the gun and your hubby is there for guidance.

If your record is clear you should not have to wait.
