Question
im going to be done with probation next month and the judge agreed to drop my felony down to a misdemeanor and have it expunged off my record. the felony was from 2004 and was possession of a controlled substance. when i recently went into court the public defender told me that if i pleaded guilty or no contest to a felony at any time, regardless if it gets dropped to a misdemeanor & expunged, that i lost my right to own a firearm. is this true? or did that public pretender not know what he's talking about?

Answer
Marcelo,

Thanks for asking. I would go with the Judge and since he was the one that dropped the charges down to misdemeanor and it is expunged too, then you should be able to own a firearm.

However, to be sure I recommend contacting a legal representative in your area to be sure.
