QuestionOhio - I am considering a CCW permit. I have a 1st degree misdemeanor assault - non domestic that is 13 years old. Will that disqulify me for the permit. I was thinking that I will be fine but the signature page of the application requires signing off on the following:
I have never been convicted of or pleaded guilty to a crime of violence in the state of Ohio or elsewhere.
AnswerAccording to Federal firearm codes you are not restricted from firearms, However a CCW permit is only for concealed carry it is at the descretion of the issuing agency to deny you for your violent misdemeanor. That does not mean you are restricted from firearms or a permit from a different state.
You may have to call the issuing agency and inquire about your conviction. They are the only ones that can answer your question at this point.
Good Luck
